The Wave by Todd Strasser #1
1) a. The book occurs at Gordon High School around the 1960's to 1990's.

b. Some things that I noticed that the book took place in a different time period:
  • The students smoked cigarettes. This is not very common for high schoolers to smoke at the 9th grade in our time.
  • In the beginning, when Laurie was looking around her office for the school paper, there were typewriters. Now-a-days people use computers instead of typewriters.
  • Mr. Ross used a film projector and the film needed to be threaded.
2) One sentence that stood out to me is in chapter 3, page 18. "To me it's like a piece of history. You can't change what happened then." This sentence really stood out to me because it made me think about history. You can't really change what happened then in history, but I don't exactly get what David meant when he said that since they were learning about history in history class.

3) Why do you think that the students were so effected by the movie? Would you have the same reaction?

I think what David meant when he said " To me it's like a piece of history. You can't change what happened then" is that whatever we do we can not change what happened in the past, we have to live with it.

To answer your question I think that they had that reaction because they lived in a life where they think noting bad can happen to them. So when they saw that they really had a news flash of what could happen. I think that I would have the same reaction.

Not to be totally negative but you could've explained more in q. #2. Because you just wrote a list on like mine or alex's etc. we wrote like a whole paragrahph. In other wrds elaborate more.

I agree with you on the time period because the evidence about the type writers and the book was published in 1981. The sentence that stood out to you reminded me about the book "Betty Ann' where you erase what you done.

I have a different time period I put 1969 because ti said in the beggining in the authors note and I don't think it was in the 90's because the 90's weren't that long ago. I agree with Lexi and with Rachel. I think htat I would have reacted the same way because to actually see (like they did in the movie) people to do that to other people it would just be so sad to watch.

tI think their effected by the movie because they probebly realized how lucky they are that the consentrated camps are gone.
